Crowns
Design is a dynamic process, expressing eternal transition in concept and form. Evolution has become a constant in contemporary design vocabulary, be it the transformation of everyday objects like chairs, changing trends in fashion or the makeover of personalities. Seizing on the fluidity of design as a thought, TITAN unveils three exquisite creations that perfectly embody dynamic form.
The Ponds Femina Miss India Universe crown is a marvel of design ingenuity. Weighing 450 g and encrusted with 2000 stones, its form is inspired by the galaxies. The impossibly delicate strands with precious crystals radiate out like shooting comets. The round brilliants and baguette diamonds on the lower end of the crown signify the ever-revolving orbits of the planets, set as they are asymmetrically, and reaching almost all the way around. The lowest circle is composed entirely of trillions, special triangular shaped stones in a beautiful, close setting that required great craftsmanship to achieve.
This crown has the perfect cosmic blend of elements, very like the universe itself. The large red stone, set slightly on the side, is the symbolic, stylised 'tikka'. With the unique feature of a prong setting with stones, it radiates the pure energy of the stars in its colour and setting. The smaller red stones randomly placed along the strands blend effortlessly into the white, engendering a sense of surprise. The asymmetry of the design is countered by the sheer balance of the proportions- the red stone is balanced by the beautiful starburst on the other side. Form combines with colour and function- 18 carat gold with diamonds and crystals set in a highly unconventional, dynamic shape. Yet worked exquisitely to make sure it sits just right on the winner's head.
The Ponds Femina Miss India World crown has a leitmotif inspired by the oceans. Its whole form depicting the fluidity of waves, the vitality of the sea. Achieved by a careful and painstaking gradation of dark to light blue crystals, ending in round stones on the tips for a particularly feminine effect. The overall feel is that of a watercolour, capturing the flow of water in all its forms.
The natural essence of this piece is enhanced by the wave-like undulating shape on the base of the crown, sitting snugly on the forehead of the wearer. And of course the vivid rectangular blue stone that expresses the tikka of victory, and sets off the varying hues of the sea on the rest of the crown. The special feature of this crown is the gradation, a global trend at the moment. This perfect gradation is made possible by the delicately executed setting called pave' which gives the effect of complete encrustation of the area with no perceivable space between the stones.
Although this crown looks simpler in comparison, there is a tremendous amount of technique and design that has gone into the gradation and the positioning of the spokes so that it sits perfectly on the winners head.
The Ponds Femina Miss India Earth crown derives its inspiration from the essence of nature- her flora and fauna. Based on the fabulous colours and movement of the peacock and its feathers, this stunning piece is an intriguing study in harmony and contrast. The startling blue stones studded along the plume-like radials, and the three green crystals that tip them, allow for a grace and unique style. The layering of the spokes, which is particularly hard to accomplish, and requires fine craftsmanship, makes the piece very three dimensional, lifting it up and away from the traditional flat look of jewelry. The layering is at several different levels, adding a special shimmer and sway to the piece, imitating exactly the dance of the peacock. The section that rests on the forehead is prettily shaped to flatter the outline of the face of the wearer. And of course, the dominant, beautifully cut, pear-shaped, deep blue stone in the centre of the piece symbolises the 'tikka', and gives a riveting focus to the whole crown
Detailed ergonomical research into complementing the proportions of the face and the body, have rounded, well finished edges, and exact specifications for each crown so that it would sit right were part of the design challenge. A spark of innovation led to a special spring mechanism in each crown, which will allow it to fit a head of any size or shape, or a hairstyle of any type, and allow for comfort of the wearer.
The Ponds Femina Miss India crowns use a myriad of stones of all shapes, sizes and cuts, combined in designs that reflect constant evolution, multi-dimensionality and unerring style. Redefining and reinterpreting movement in design to express a new, exuberant aesthetic that will mirror the joyous feeling of the winners of the crowns!
